Enrichment of grain or any economic part of plant that is partly or fully consumed by human being through conventiona breeding or agronomic or genetic engineering tools inferred as biofortification. It is common in foodgrains, but not common in fodder crops. Is there is any advancement in this field need to to discuss here and suggestion are also invited
@ Uma, yes it can. Biofortification is an important method to develop crops with a higher level of vitamins, minerals, protein and healthier fats which improve health of us including animals. The objective of biofortification is to develop micronutrient dense staple crops to achieve vitamins A, iron and zinc concentrations that can have a measurable impact on nutritional status. The micronutrients iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) play an important role in the metabolism of both animals including humans and plants. The deficiency of these micronutrients, therefore, has a direct effect on their growth and metabolism. So, after biofortification with micronutrient the fodder crops can be used food for both animals and human beings.

Sure you can biofortify also fodder crops with micronutrients. A well known and long established practice is to enrich fodder crops with selenium as selenate or selenite in regions experiencing Se deficiencies like in northern Europe (Finland, etc.).
Biofortification improves the content of micronutrients as well as different minerals and vitamins. So, fodder crops enrich with micronutrients by the process of biofortifying.

Uma Nath Shukla In fact, it will be more effective in case of fodder where leaves constitute edible portion. Because many studies have reported that, micronutrients like Fe, Zn gets accumulated in foliage in higher concentration than in grains.
