You can change MeOH with EtOH without any problem. Note that the EtOH is a little bit more lipophilic than MeOH. but in general, the solvent properties of both are similar except the boiling point of EtOH is about 18 °C higher (c. 78 °C) than that of MeOH. Further, MeOH is somewhat toxic.
I understand , you have used methanol as solvent for extraction. In this respect the nature of methanol and ethanol are, for all practical purposes, similar. Boiling points of these solvents are, however, different. Please do note that ethanol is a much safer solvent compared to methanol.
It is better use Ethanol for crude extracts since it reacts less to form artifacts and is less toxic. In our lab we use technical grade ethanol, we distill it and then use it... or drink it ... hehehe, Just a joke. Good luck with your research.
