When I did in utero electroporation of blank plasmids (control) to mouse embryonic cortex, I found more BrdU-positive and Ki67-positive neural cells in the electroporated position than the counterpart of another side of cortex after staining with specific antibodies. Has there anyone observed similar results? I thought whether electroporation can induce this phenotype. Can anyone help me to explain this result?
Which marker did you use to identify progenitors? Are you sure that the needle used for injecting the plasmid is not damaging your region of interest, hence triggering a proliferative repair mechanism?

I used ki67, BrdU, PH3 to visualize progenitors. I'm not sure whether it's a proliferative repair mechanism, but all the region expressing EGFP showed more marker staining compared with side region and counterpart of another side of cortex. I think I may inject plasmids from more rostral region to ventricle to avoid damage to target region.
