Combat‐related PTSD nightmares and imagery rehearsal: Nightmare characteristics and relation to treatment outcome. Harb, Gerlinde C.; Thompson, Richard; Ross, Richard J.; Cook, Joan M.. Dream rehearsal will deepen the understanding of the dream and hence throw light on the problem in waking. The most important part of such rehearsal is to dig deep in the points that are not understood. Ask: "Where does that take me? What does lit remind me of?" etc. This brings to light the underlying meaning, for the dream uses past events as vocabulary for what is to come. In addition to this it is a beneficial thing to DRAW the dream's central items. Treat the dream as a story some friend of yours has told you. Forget that it was your dream for a start. Kindle has my electronic version of my book "Tomorrow in your Dreams". Best of luck!
