Technical support and guidance can also be provided to employees to help turn ideas into actionable realities, and leadership is able to articulate an inspiring vision and share it with employees. They must feel confident in leadership's direction and believe that their ideas and contributions are important and wanted.

Fostering innovation in an organization requires a certain type of leadership that has special abilities to bring about innovation and change; and encourage the followers to question the status quo. Leaders who have ability to lead change in the organisation’s mission, strategy, structure and culture as well as promote innovation in products and technologies. I would recommend transformational leadership style as the preferred one in that case

Innovation means change, and change breaks everybody's comfort. Add to that the effect of new technologies, such as AI, that are reshaping business environments and ecosystems at a more rapid pace than ever before, and you will see the picture of a very adaptative and courageous leader, able to inspire and challenge himself and his team every day with questions about future strategic scenarios and the skills the organization needs to prevail.

Innovation requires a safe and secure culture with freedom to take risks . For every one innovative , game changing idea which transformed business landscape 100 failed attempts precede . The leadership style needed will be:

1. Visionary leadership - Innovation is for the future hence creating a vision which will impact many lives would be the role of future . The purpose and motivation to innovate will be set by the leadership.

2. Leadership of allowing to fail - Innovation is a factor of percentage and for that one success many bold attempts must be made and every failure in that process to be celebrated , reflected and improved . hence Leadership which allows sincere attempts to continue rather than stopping due to repeated failures will be needed .

3. Participating leadership - The team driving the innovation will have to be of high will and high skill . The leader has to ensure that the resources both quantity and quality are regularly supplied for including financial resources . Hence leader has to participate with stakeholders , network and ensure that there are no roadblocks to attempt of innovation.

4. High delegation and empowerment- To ensure innovation is of a breakthrough nature leaders must allow lots of delegation and empowerment to the team members driving innovation .

5. Alignment to larger business goal - Leaders need to bridge and balance the enthusiasm of the innovation team and the business viability to ensure the innovation benefits the society , shareholders and organisation goals . Regularly aligning , moderating , coaching , mentoring would be the competencies needed as a leader .
