In the light of my teaching experiences to EFL University students in writing tasks besides a number of lexico-grammatical errors found in EFL novice authors’ published work as corpus of my thesis, I noticed poor standard of sentence patterns with improper diction and expression which requires improvement. Yes, the oral tradition is always easier for students to grasp first than the actual written work. You can also use topics that are familiar to them such as they use on Facebook such as music, movies, sports, fashion, etc. in helping them to get into the topic. If "diction and expression" means "oral" communication then it is an obvious assumption to think that this helps every printout. My RG-English is concerned with this problem.
Oh, yes! Diction and expression are the key components of academic writing skill and there's no way they can be avoided if improvements in this area are sought.
