I think automation may not automatically tackle or eliminate corruption, but it leaves traces or marks under which the Culprits can be made answerable.
Automation is also a "scare crew" especially to non IT personally and therefore it may be a hinder some individuals from engaging in corruption related activities.
Automatic audit mechanism is an established control system that helps an organisation to trace or understand an individual action so that the doer is made responsible. It is a control process in any setting (national or subnational). The consciosness that ones action is being monitored can reduce corruption to certain level.
Automatic audit mechanisms can only work in an environment where every stakeholder is sincere and honest with their assignment. Corruption is a state of mind that comes out of the position in which one is occupying. An automatic audit mechanism will only work where effective internal controls are used for all the transactions and a strategic plan is put in place to monitor it.
I think automatic audit mechanisms (I take it as a continuous audit on municipal governments by the central government), is a required mechanism to check and balance the local powers with the central powers, that sounds good but what if the central government is corrupt? This is exactly what`s happing in Turkiye. Central government lost its municipal elections against the opposition Republican`s People party in all big cities and since then in last 4.5 years it has been hindering the municipal help towards them. They are doing this through their so called independent(!) auditors.
