I don't think that this is a good idea.

What do you mean by concentrated phosphoric acid? By default, this would be 85 %. Even if you managed to neutralise this, you'd have enormous amounts of salt. I'm not an expert for Py-GC/MS. But in normal GC/MS you should only measure volatile, non-corrosive samples. Everything else would be a very expensive one-shot.

Concentrated phosphoric acid can damage the internal components of the GC/MS system, especially if the acid is not fully volatilized or if residues are left behind. Also impact the stationary phase of the GC column, potentially leading to degradation and shorter column life. Pyrolysis at 550 °C will decompose the sample into smaller volatile compounds for analysis. If the sample is in a neutral pH range, it is less likely to produce unwanted by-products or interfere with the pyrolysis process, also improve reproducibility and accuracy of the analytical results.

Sameer M Mahmood Thank you for the information. Pyrolysis temperature will actually be 550 °C. In order to prevent increased degradation of the column I will look for an alternative or a possibility to neutralize my sample. If this isn't possible I will try measuring the sample directly, but only if nothing else works
