backward-forward sweep method is normally useful for radial networks load flow analysis. However, it can be tuned to solve load flow for meshed networks where number of meshes are less (one or two). Larger meshes may be very difficult to handle by this load flow approach.
Dear Johanno, I absolutely agree with Mohammad N. A. I had developed one named "voltage correction based PF". At that time I review many of PF method in distribution system. Formulation of any distrbution power flow methods claim that they were developed for a weak mesh network or radial systems, of which Newto-Raphson may frequently diverge. However, none of them can be proof that they are better than NR method. This point should be verified. I don't familiar with an algorithm used in a commercial grade software. However, in my experience of running PF in distribution system of around 100 buses, Newton-Raphson based method is still work well.
