A hipot tester is an electronic device used to verify the electrical insulation in a device or other wired assembly that could subject someone to a shock if it failed. It generally consists of:
A source of high voltage,
A current meter,
A switching matrix used to connect the high voltage source and the current meter to all of the contact points in a cable.
Hipot testers may also have a microcontroller and a display to automate the testing process and display the testing results.
Hello, unfortunately the question is not quite clear.
The HIPOT Tester detects an insulation problem - - - at a single device or at the prototype ? And losses == poor efficiency ? Or poor production yield ?
Single device: check for production flaws.
Prototype: check for design flaws. Without knowing whether there is a single point of failure (missing insulation, too low creeping distances etc.) or a systematical problem (as poor quality of insulation) an answer is difficult. In general insulation improvements do not necessarily influence the efficiency. Increasing insulation thickness may influence efficiency to the negative side - using better materials that allow for the same or lower insulation thickness should have neutral or positive effects.
