For working with TLC method, I think you can search the possible methods in the CBS Camag data base, just insert the name of the plant to the data base, maybe someone has ever worked with the plants, good luck.

Sorry to know that your plant is not in the list, maybe you can try insert the genus or Family. I agree with Sanmugapriya, Wagner's book is nice. I recommend you also to read other book:

In my experience it is hard to get good TLCs from a raw plant extract. Usually there is still a lot of "dirt" in it. You could try some liquid-liquid extractions first (e.g. chloroform/water or ether/water) and then try a TLC of the concentrated fractions after evaporation. For TLC Chloroform/MeOH (4.8:0,2, v,v) worked well for me with my extracts, however, I don´t know about the polarity of your compounds. Did you use any staining reagents for non UV-active compounds? (e.g. vanillin, sulfuric acid for alcohols)

It is important to find out what pH-region the separation might take place. From what you write, the eluents are very lipophilic and has no pH adjustment. Why not try an alkaline system, an acidic system  and a neutral system, just to see if there is a pH dependence for the separation.

I agree with Jan Glaser, it is very hard to get good  TLC resolution on raw plant extracts. You should make a separation using liquid- liquid partition  to "clean" your crude extract. All the references the researcher gave to you are very interesting and you should try some of the solvent systems are mentioned there. I also think it would be very interesting you have some idea about the type of compounds is present in your extracts in order to choose the best system, may be you have to try some color reaction like Shinoda, Bortranger, Dragendorff and so on. You have not mentioned which type of compounds you want to separate on TLC. First you do the liquid liquid extraction and then you will get different portions according to polarity, after that you can easily adjust the TLC system for these compounds according to their nature.

Before TLC you should have an idea about the class of secondary metabolites you are looking into by performing biochemical tests on the crude extract - then you can go for a specific solvent solvent separation followed by TLC for a particular class of compound

I had used this system 100:13.5:10 ethyl acetate/methanol/water with Neu revelation (coming from this very nice book: plant-drug-analysis-a-thin-layer-chromatography-atlas). It was very efficient for flavonoids.

You try to add Chloroform/metanolic extracts 3:1 in cold water

if you want only to isolate flavonoids and phenolics, best option will be to first convert them into salts by adding aquous NaOH, it will come in water. Then again adjust the pH of water layer with dil HCl and extract them with organic solvent, this way you will get all the phenolics in your organic solvent.

As an addition, for TLC profile, a combination of chloroform:ethyl acetate:formic acid (5:4:1, or other ratios of this combination) can be used for the development of methanolic extract. Compounds such as rosmarinic acid, gallic acid, methyl gallate and even daucosterol (phytosterol glucoside) are well-separated with this mobile phase. Moreover, I just wondering that your "methanolic extract" probably contained tannins, which can be checked with diethyl ether (tannins will precipitated as brown gum) or BSA. Please be careful since concentrated formic acid is used and diethyl ether is highly flammable, thus works under fume hood are required. 

It is a bit difficult to have a good separation of crude methanolic extract with TLC method. You have to subject your crude extract to fractionation since we have many compounds with different polarities in the extract.  Each fraction can now be easily separated using those solvents combination you have mentioned earlier. Try it and see result. Best of luck.
