i have searched about spontaneously diabetic rats and found the diabetic prone BB rat, but i need to know if anyone had purchased this model or from where i can buy them.

A few decades ago, there were two sources of BB rats, Worcester, Massachusetts and Ottawa. I used to get males from the former - about 50% used to become diabetic around d80.

hi Steingrimur, yes i have already used STZ for the induction of diabetes, but i need to be sure for the complete destruction of beta cells, so our new project i need a rat model that we would be sure of being type 1......thanks for your reply, i will take a look in this attached article
