Hello, I been treating sewage sludge ( 3% total solids) with sodium persulfate at high temperature (120 deg C) in a pressure vessel. After the treatment, the total solids of the digested sludge seems to be increasing ( to around 5%). I was expecting a decrease in total solids, as persulfate is a strong oxidant which will destroy organics.
Evaporation of water during the treatment is not likely, as I been using closed vessel.
For total solids determination, I have been drying the samples overnight at 105 deg C.
Can someone shed light on what might cause the total solids to increase after such treatment?
Thanks in advance.
