Hi, my suggestion would be RapidMiner - it is really comprehensible from the users' point of view. Very powerful and a popular one would also be R.

I recommend Matlab software. It has lots of toolboxes and a very comprehensive help/manual.

Try KNIME (https://www.knime.org) it is free to download and has data mining tools (decision trees, SVM, kNN etc etc) as well as plugins for R, WEKA so you can use these softwares through KNIME itself. The workflows you create are visual so you can see the workflow of the data analysis. In addition these workflows can be saved and sent to other to implement (really important if you publish and someone want to replicate your work you have it all saved as a workflow!) as well as being reused by yourself. There are lots of you tube videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/KNIMETV) on how to use the software and i found it easy to pick up from this and just playing with the software. Plus they have a user forum where you can post questions if you get stuck.

Data Mining is a really broad term, you might want to be more specific on what you are looking for.

I would recommend Python and scikit-learn, has enough tools, and Python is a real friendly language. Rapid miner is fine for industry but not really good to do serious research

WEKA uses .arff file format and has an accompanying textbook available that can be purchased. 

2. Orange  http://orange.biolab.si/

Orange uses visual programming and uses .tab file format for data upload.

I am suggesting you to use WEKA or ORANGE

WEKA has many techniques (algorithms) that you can apply for your data.

You just have to try which one can be used for prediction or classification.

For example, k-NN (IBk in WEKA) and ANN (MultilayerPerceptron in WEKA) can perform both tasks.

Hi, Knime and R are a good mix to decrease the complexity about the integration sources, and the process orchestration.
