We have many international theological students who do not have a strong command of English and I would like to help them by designing a course on Theological English to enhance their ability to write theologically and am looking for resources.
There are certainly different domains of language focusing on specialized areas of knowledge and communication. It seems that such functionally different kinds of language use share a common core which embraces the rules and details of general English. What makes each area of use different from the others is the consideration and application of specific stylistic conventions practiced by the members of the given speech community ( e.g. seminary/ theological scholars) and the the semi- technical / technical terms dominating that kind of specialized use. Therefore, any type of material development for theological students should begin with a preliminary phase of text analysis to specify the range of stylistic specifications and the academic/ specialized words and expressions characterizing theological corpora.
