We found that subsidies to Chinese industry correlated with increased exports. More information on our book ("Subsidies to Chinese Industry: State Capitalism, Business Strategy and Trade Policy" with Oxford University Press) which looked at exports in steel, glass, paper and auto parts is accessible through my profile page.
