Dear all,
I have some preserved specimens of deep sea eels. As part of my taxonomic analysis it is necessary to get the vertebral counts of the same. I have tried with few medical X-ray machines but fail to get radiographs with sufficient resolution to count the vertebrae.
Can anyone suggest me any institutions especially in India that have suitable machine that could do radiographs.

We are also working on eels of Indian waters and need to radiograph them. We rather doing it successfully with medical X-ray machine only. If interested, we can have collaboration and work as a group. Your specimens will certainly give more insight. Best wishes,

After trying several medical X-ray machines we have settled with one which is doing it upto the precision and presently working on eels of the east coast of India. If you like you can come with all your specimens to Digha, West Bengal and I hope it can be done with right precision.

Thanks for your comment. I have heard about you from Dr. D.G. Smith and he also suggested me the chance for getting the high resolution radiographs from ZSI.
Unfortunately all our specimens was preserved in 10 percent formaldehyde solution. I have doubt about deossification of the skeleton. As Digha is far away from here. Can I send one of my preserved specimen of eel as trial. If it works I can come with all my specimens after taking the permission from our Institution. Please let me know your comment.

Yes you can send one of your specimen. But I am confident there will be no problem. Recently we have done X-ray of a 200 years old specimen and with accuracy too. All our specimens are also kept in 10 % formaldehyde solution. You can send one specimen for verification.
