It depends what you want the enzymes for. For example if they need to operate alongside cell-based cofactors you might be better off using whole cell systems as opposed to the isolated crude enzyme. Fungi such as Absidia cylindrospora and Beauveria sulfurescens for example can hydroxylate hydrocarbons and can be grown fairly easily in a lab if you have a reciprocal shaker, autoclave and clean air cabinet.
