You have to develop a survey or clinical trial instrument with questions as what coping strategies are adopted by boys and girls in the age group of 9-19 years. Naturally, for this age group open-end questions are not advisable. Linkert's scale is good for this age group. In a study carried out by one of my students on *crowding* responses on Likert's scale have been noted on suggestive answers,. For example, to the question, when visitors come to your home, do you feel crowding? If answer was yes, then a suggestive question was, "Do you leave the house to avoid the situation and how long you remain outside? on Linkert's scale 5 meant for very long hours, 4 meant long hours, 3 meant for sometime, 2 meant for very shot duration and 1 meant not at all. Similarly, a question was, "Do you shut your eyes, years and mind to visitors i.e., go introvert and how intense is this avoidance/introversion? On Linkert's scale 5 meant very intense implying the one does not listen or pay attention even if addressed loudly, 4 meant intense whereby one listen but does not feel obliged to respond, 3 meant listen and respond with rebuff, 2 meant responded tersely and 1 meant responded pleasantly.
You may develop your own instrument according to nature of the problem (s) and responses may be recorded on Linkert's Scale for further analysis. Good luck!
