To check for a good research topic for your thesis, I suggest you do the following:
1. Choose a number of peer-reviewed research papers related to, say, digital banking, from Google Scholar or similar websites, not from any other source such as Google, etc.
2. Read these research papers and check for the research gaps from within such research. You may find these gaps under the subtitle, Future Research or similar subtitles.
3. Make sure that such gaps are not covered by recent research. That is, for the gap that you want to cover, read to the last current research in this regard to make sure that no other author(s) already conducted such research.
4. Then, go ahead and start preparing for your research, preferably using the Literature Review Matrix where you put a table showing authors, title, objectives, problem statement, variables, methodologies used, findings, etc. for each research paper selected. By the way, you may want to keep such relevant research papers to use them as references in your research.

2. How fintech helps in adding teeth to financial inclusion.

5. Whether the introduction of central bank digital currency or cryptocurrency helps in curbing money diversion, embezzlement and other such fraudulent activities.

I think, Blockchain application could be good subject for digital banking applications. Banks charge heavy commissions on money transfers. Blockchain applications can reduce this cost dramatically. Banks are able to serve many of their services online now. Blockchains can be well used for money transfers also for import and export transactions through "smart contracts." A study on "how many banks are performing their transactions through Blockchain?" could be a good example.
I propose the following developmental and timely research topic for a PhD thesis on banking and finance: Improving credit and cyber risk management processes in commercial banks developing lending activities for pro-environmental business ventures, developing green lending, green financing and developing remote access to banking services and products through internet and mobile banking, implementing new information, internet and Industry 4.0 technologies into banking activities. I have conducted research and published a series of articles on improving credit risk management processes in commercial banks. I invite you to collaborate with me on this issue of banking.
CBDC's are being implemented throughout the world because the current global financial system is failing fast. I have been writing about this for over 15 years and report progress in my weekly Letters. Here is my June 2022 assessment of the Repo crisis which quietly unfolded in September 2019 and from which most of our current ills have followed:https://austrianpeter.substack.com/p/a-perfect-storm-the-money-crisis?s=w
