I was searching for information on Ni powder catalyst, and found that Ni powder is always deposited on a substrate, for example, SiO 2. Why Ni powder isn't placed directly in the reactor, without a substrate?
For catalysis high surface area is required. When Ni is deposited on surface, it is in dispersed condition. So large surface area is available. If as such powder is used there is always tendency to agglomerate thus losing the surface area.
