Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) it is a useful tool to investigate the incompatibilities between an API and excipient in the preformulation studies of dosage forms. Quickly you can get information about possible interactions between the components of the formulation, according to the appearance, change, or the disappearance of endothermic or exothermic peaks, and / or variations of enthalpy values in thermal curves of drug-excipient mixture . The technique applies evaluating binary mixtures of API and excipient in different weight ratios , also each component separately analyzed in order to compare the thermal events of component alone and in the binary mixture.
