We are basically looking for an ELN thats freely available and is user friendle so that even novices to the ELn environment will adapt to it easily.
I use Microsoft OneNote because it is versatile, shareable, easy to use, and is already installed with my Microsoft Office software. I've also used it to create an archive for lab protocols that is accessible to all lab members, cross-linked, and searchable.
Evernote is another option, which also has a mobile app.

OneNote is a good option for ELN. Google Doc is another convenient one I believe.
If you are looking for something more, Teamwork is a good user-friendly option for management of projects and notes too.
Thanks for the answers. One Note is definitely good.We have been using OneNote. We are thinking of something that would enable having links to lab resources and ordering lists.
NoteHub came out of beta in late 2015, very modern and easy to pick up. It is versatile enough for most life sciences labs (has Google Docs integration as well). Their prices are up-front (on their site).
