We are planning a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of a locally-prepared fibrin sealant obtained from autologuos plasma for clinical use to reduce post-operative bleeding in a number of surgical procedures. In order to blind the surgeon who will assess the clinical outcome measure to reduce bias, we require a placebo that will look identical to the fibrin sealant and at the same time will not have effect on either bleeding or wound healing. I will appreciate if anyone with experience in clinical trials involving fibrin sealant can assist with suggestion of such a material that will be suitable for use as a placebo for this purpose.
For guidance, our fibrin sealant is a gel-like material, cream to turbid in colour, resembling a clot obtained at the end of a clotting test like the manual prothrombin time.
Thank you in anticipation.
