Aquaponics is an environment friendly, 40% less energy intensive (no land preparation, weeding, etc.), 85% less water consuming,  requiring no use of chemicals and fertilisers, etc. method of growing foods particularly fresh green salad and vegetables close to major market (metropolitan cities, etc.). In this method fish (which are grown along with crops) produces the nutrients required for growth of crops. The only required input is the food for the fish. This has huge commercial potential in country like India.
