In the begining i though it was Hyssopus officinalis, however we have some doubts that this plant is micromeria juliana, im not sure about it till now...this is a plant growing wild in our region. i think that the better way to identify it is to extract the DNA and to do a PCR using specific primers. Thank you again, i really appreciate you collaborations.
Hi! If you suspect it could be Micromeria juliana, please pay attention also to Micromeria myrtifolia (M. juliana var. myrtifolia), which by World Checklist of Selected Plant Families (http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/namedetail.do?name_id=127317 ) is recorded for LBS (Lebanon/Syria). For identification, the following paper might be helpful: Arabaci et al. 2010, Morphological character analysis in Turkish Micromeria Benth. (Lamiaceae) species with a numerical taxonomic study. Turk. J. Bot. 34: 379-389. - http://journals.tubitak.gov.tr/botany/issues/bot-10-34-5/bot-34-5-3-0905-22.pdf
I have seen M. juliana several times in Greece and Italy and this was also my first thought. However, I don't know, which other similar species exist in Lebanon.
The leaves of your plant are rather broad. So, this would rather be Micromeria myrtifolia than M. juliana. Anyway, extracting DNA would not be very helpful for identification as long as reference sequences are missing for M. myrtifolia. I have checked GenBank and could not find any entry for M. myrtifolia. So, you have the chance to be the first one, but a correct identification of your plants by phenetic characters should be safeguarded.
