According to me you can use Cornmeal Agar (CMA) & Potato Carrot Agar (PCA) to cultivate fungi belonging to the phylum Deuteromycota(FUNGI IMPERFECTI).

There by you can differentiate between deuteromycota,ascomycota and basidiomycota ....
You can use API test which are commercial biochemical kits. In my phD I used Biomerieux API tests for taxonomic characterization of several bacterial strains and further combined this result with more serious phylogenetic analysus. So API test are good choice for quick and preliminary analysis.
CLPP method- commercial plates with special set of carbon sources selected for identyfication isotates and for metabolic characteristic of all microbial communities from environment (soil, water, organic waste) . For fungi there is special type of plate BIOLOG-FF. You obtain "metabolic fingerprint" by measuring absorbance- level of every carbon source utilization. Test is quick but BIOLOG system with database is expensive.
