Mg is abandontantly present in seawater and extracted from it by electrochemical methods. Mg-Li alloys are perhaps the engineering alloys with lowest relative densities. In stead of steel applications, consider Mg-Li application to save mass.

consider specific strength to find a replace to you steel. You may find your alloy in Mg based alloys.
What's the problem? Do you want to use it at high temperature? Mg alloys are not as easy as pure Mg flammable. Be the way, if you use Mg as a bulk part it you wont be worry about flammability.
