I doubt this is Cochlospermum religiosum (L.) Alston (Cochlospermaceae/Bixaceae), a tree species of the semi arid regions. Have you seen it in flowering? Flowers are very large, brignt yellow with numerous stamens.
Sorry I was wrong. On seeing the dehised fruit , I am sure it is not Cochlospermum religiosum. Cochlospermum religiosum has seeds embedded in cotton wool as in Bombax. This may be a member of Malvaceae or Sterculiaceae. Please try to see flowers.
From the position of the fruit that facing upward looks like Swietenia mahogany, but I am not sure because there is no leaves or flowers. I am also thinking about Sterculiaceae or Lytheraceae, but the position of the fruit shows it is more look like Lytheraceae. May be if you have any information of the fruit size and the seeds will help, especially if you have the images of the seeds.
