Hi everybody. I have a problem with keratin dissolution.

I know that thiols are good reducing agents for disulfide bonds, and so these compounds can dissolve keratin in water. But I want to dissolve keratin without using of Thiols. Is there any good suggestion? Also, harsh alkali condition can degrade the chain of keratin protein. What is the solution of this problem?
