I am interested in setting up an experiment to measure film thicknesses in the order of 10 microns. It is not clear how much the circular glass pipe's thickness will affect the interference thicknesses and that there are three interfaces. Someone with experience please provide some specifics on how to go about setting the same from scratch.

I don't know about Lloyd's interferometer, but I could suggest you try think about low coherence interferometry with white light. Depending of the accuracy that you want, you may do this with a discreet Michelson interferometer using a light source. You need to use an optical fiber between the source and the interferometer to make easy the collimation.The length of coherence of the source will define the accuracy of the measurement.

Hi Mr. Sagar, I agree with Oliveira. An OCT setup would work. You can use a fiber-coupled SLD as your source and 2x2 fiber couplers to setup the Michelson interferometer. The phase delay can be introduced with a fiber stretcher or with a mirror mounted in a translation stage. You can have resolutions of 5 microns or better. Best regards, DLM
