One of my colleagues asked me a doubt on "For analysing presence absence data in estimates, the data format is to give the added encounters (presence/absence) per visit of each species(bird) during the sampling period(s)..Like I've made 10 visits to the place and I saw Species A during 5 visits( value = 5). My doubt is, how will I enter if I have replicate transects?
You can treat each replicate as a separate sample, but you can also combine all replicates on one site to one count. It depends what do you aim for. When using e.g. multivaraite analysis, giving more samples (each of replicate separately) will give better material for statistics, but if you want to have a faunistic data you may need just a simple information about presence/absence of each species in some locality or region.
These is depends of the aim of your study. Therefore, you can treat each replicate separately as a sample. Whereas, you can combined all observations on one count for one site of study.
