I am working on the optimization of QMF (Quadrature mirror filter) synthesis module. The implementation which I have is based on the FIR filters. I know that the QMF can be implemented using DCT in a more optimized way.
I have referred "Multirate Systems And Filter Banks" by P. P. Vaidyanathan, but find it very difficult to understand.
Can anyone explain me the steps to do this?

If you are referring to a 2 channel filter banks (that's what QMF is),
implementing it using DCT modulation will not help to reduce the complexity.
Exploring the lattice structure may be the most efficient way to get it
done.

You can implement a 64 channel cosine modulated filter banks with a single convolution of the prototype filer and DCT-IV transformation. Are you free to design the subband filters?
Actually, I am sorry that I am not sure what are you exactly referring to when you mentioned that you want to optimize your filter bank. If "optimize" means that you are looking for the VLSI implementation of a cosine modulated filter bank, the following will be a good reference
