Collected from Kochi, Kerala, India. Could anyone please identify. Suspects Martesia sp.???
try to contact Paul Valentich-Scott ([email protected]) he is a bivalve specialist and curator at SBNHM in California.
good luck!
Looks like Martesia striata (L 1758), bores in wood, was anterior open?
If boring in rock and anterior closed by calcareous crust possibly Aspidopholas obtecta (Sow, 1849).
Best regards, Leon
Thank you Adrian Arvizu-Ruiz
Leon Hoffman and Henk Dekker Thanks for your help in identification...
Ì guess, it could be a Martesia striata, I have collected these bivalves in good numbers at Visakhapatnam Harbour area. As Dr.Henk Dekker pointed out, this species has a wider distribution in tropics.
Thiruchitrambalam GANESH Thank you sir....
