Does anybody help me to identify the spider from the dauber wasp Sceliphron destillatorius breeding camera ? Two of three species I identified, and for other just suppose that it can be from woolf spiders. Is'nt it? Body length 4-5 mm.
Send the photos to dr Robert Rozwałka ([email protected]) from Lublin University. I don't think there is better choice in Poland. If he can't nobody can - I think.
Arnaud is right, S.zebraneus not S.scenicus (photo on the concrete misleads me). And Pseudicius encarpatus. But after Sceliphron's and Andrey's treatment dorsal patterns could be little damaged:-)
a hundred thanks for such interest to Sceliphron pray, and qualified identification. So, I supposed that can be two species on photo, but I'm very far specialist from spiders and can identify only some common species. So, for any case I'm sending into net general photos. This green spider on photo I think is Araniella cucurbitina
(Clerck, 1757) , and brown – Tegenaria domestica (Clerck, 1757). Is'nt it ?
Other question is if I can citing some of you in my book " Parasitology with basic Biotsenology" (like serious manual) that appear in on-line version till New Year, but in Ukrainian. If I see interest will do it in English. Anyway, will appear necessity to ask for help different specialists, as there I am using different material from the tropical regions, esp from the South-East Asia, where I spent enough much time.
As well I attached 1 photo of Sceliphron destillatorius. With it nests it happened year before last that I started to investigate it's interestin nests under the garret, when one wasp put several chambers on my gown ! So, I destroy one to see prays. Last year I started to recontract the garret, so wasps were not satisfied and disappeared.
Hi Andrey..the best way for identify spiders is the arrangement of their eyes..so you must take photo from anterior view of the head ... and then you can go to the
The World Spider Catalog, Version 15 … by Norman I. Platnick..best regards
Since I saw that you were following my updates, you might have noticed that I have published a small note on the spider contents of a sceliphron nest. I had little expertise at that time and could identify the wasp and the spiders only superficially. Still it could be a useful reference.
I agree with Tomasz for most of the ID. I just have little doubt for the "Pseudicius encarpatus" but I can not suggest better ID... this clearly shows the limit of identifying spiders on photographs. Indeed, you have to keep in mind that without examination of the genitatia (under binocular or microscope) you can not be 100% sure of the determination of spiders (excepted maybe rare cases)... My best advise then is to collect and preserve the specimens in alcohool and send them to a specialist. I may suggest you to take contact with Pierre Oger (http://arachno.piwigo.com/index?/contact/) who built this wonderfull web site on spiders of France and Belgium mainly: http://arachno.piwigo.com/) and which is a great help for identifying a lot of spiders. Good luck with your Book.
Sorry, right name? Sceliphrons in the world are not so widespread, smwt more than 30 species, in Europe 2 max. 3. I did'nt note when it put the egg into the chamber – before put spider, with the first spider. You know ? But I'm shure that not before closing camera. I had foolow this moment very good and several time.
yes, I agree. I have to do with much smaller creatures. The smallest ciliate I described was under 20 mk, and 2 small copepods were not over 300 mk. From Arthropodes I'm enough good in some insects, like Tettigonoidea, some groups of bugs even tropical. I have not bad collection of some groups of insects, as my master degree work (40 years ago!!!) was like entomologist. But last 10 years I'm trying to teach my students not to kill alive creatures without extra necessity. Anyway, if you will be interested for some material, can gather for you. next year want to go for Tanzania, and Kilimandzharo to gather some material in Copepoda.
And thanks for Pierr site. Will use.
I have one more interesting photo from Lao (horned female), and one from Cambodia from closely near the famous sculpture of resting Budda not far from Angkor Vat !
Can sent directly? May be will be interesting for you ?
have you some PDF, than can attache for me, both atlases and kees, if not me (I'm to old to start with so complicated group) but may be for some post graduate ?
thanks about your article, now I rad it precisely. I propose you, if you want, to publish some information about this my wasp (may be use all possible information appeared about these wasps – but information very poor) in this your journal Current science. May be take like companians Tomasz. if you agree, I'll sent you photos and information, because I spent enough much time in 37-40 temperature under the garret, and have perfect photos of nests and there making procedure. Wasp even following its work by special, the very typical bumbling or humming !
if you decide to continue your research on Sceliphrons's nests in the future you can send me all collected specimens and I will be happy to determine that. I find this very interesting, but unfortunately Sceliphron is'nt present in my area(although it is known from southern Poland)
i have contact dr Robert Rozwałka and he says Pseudicius encarpatus is OK.. And he is the best specialist in this part of Europe.
it should be in the Bieszhady NP, as I'm living near the Beskidy ridge, not far from both Ravka mountains. it's village Stuzhitsa, 13 years ago I bought their a house and made like dendropark and actually living their and smts use like a base for expeditions. Couple weeks it was expedition from Kosice and from Kiev that used my hospitality.
Temperature for overwintering of eggs or larvae is not so important, because sometimes more than 30 below 0, but interesting that majority of nests on chimney, from gley, so may be hot from it ?
OK let us wait answer from Vinayak, may by early down in India. From the playn it is so nice at night the northern India with it giant cities from the air...
giant cities of India are nice only from that height. I wish to keep much more distance from them because they are choking. And I am able to keep that distance as I live in a remote place which is much more clean, pure and calm.
Anyway, thank you very much for your offer. I would certainly like to take a look at the photos. Presently, I am too busy with my PhD work. But I can spare some time for it. I have observations on some other wasps which I did not write about for lack of detail and time. So, I might be able to make some interesting conclusions.
I actually work on African spiders. So if you get spiders from Tanzania and Kilimanjaro it would be interresting fo me of course ! I especially work on ant eating spiders (Zodariidae).
but you should istruct me thoroughly how to gather them, and how to keep and transport. It is about two weeks jorney, so should be enough compact and transportable (not heavy).
Or if you want we can go both (in team, they are gathering teams about 10 person to go with professional guides). Anyway should take care as Tanzania is not extra safe country in some regions (near Nile). But Ruwenzori enough pacific.
