Dear Colleagues:
Can anybody give suggestions on the identity of this small calyptraeid species? I collected it alive on rocks at low tide near Caldera (27°S), northern Chile. It differs from all the other Crepidula and Crucibulum found in Chile and Peru in the unusual sculpture of the shell and the bluish-colored apex.
Any help will be appreciated.

Looks like a member of family Patellidae (true limpets). ca you send an image of the inside part without the animal? Can be even Calyptraeidae as mentioned by Dr Syed.
looking at the document sent by Dr. Syed, yes it is close to family Calyptraeidae
Is it possible the blueish apex is environmental staining? Otherwise, I think it resembles Crepidula aculeata, but Dr. Kumar is correct - the interior is the key.

Thanks to all for your insight. It indeed looks like Crepidula aculeata or a member of Bostrycapulus. I will try to take an image of inside the shell, but it will take some time.

I suggest you write to Rachel Collin at STRI ([email protected]) - she has done the most in-depth Recent work on Bostrycapulus taxonomy, including describing new species.
