The specimen has been found from the rocky coasts of Gulf of Oman, bored in to an sponge tissue. albeit its small size, the animal was mature. can you help me to identify it? Thanks.
Dear Amir, this is NOT an alpheid shrimp for sure. It is a palaemonid shrimp, most likely belonging to the genus Periclimenaeus, as evidenced by the exposed eyes, the long and dorsally toothed rostrum, the second pair of chelipeds seem to be enlarged (instead of the first pair in alpheids), with the major chela dactylus apparently bearing a molar process, and some other features
I used to be a student of Dr. Naderloo, and we met in Chabahar once if you remember me. Keider is right. i have found Priclimenaeus arabicus in both Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman inside sponges. you can check your specimen with it to be sure about it. i think i have some photos of P. arabicus. if you want, i can share them with you.
