I collected these snakes recently from the backyard gardens when I visited my friends house in Kerala, India. I will be thankful to you if you could identify these snakes. These photos do not mach with the published snake species as for as my basic knowledge in herpetology is concerned.

The photos of this snake are very interesting and do not seem to indicate a species known in Kerala. I had the opportunity to do several missions in this beautiful region
which is full of many snakes, but I have never met this species.
I think, like other researchers, that it is probably a taxon of the genus Rhinophis. At all hazards, I enclose a paper from the Journal (Bombay Natural History Society vol X p236-237) on Rhinophis fergusonianus, a closely related species.

Metamorphic data or DNA sequencing or both would be appropriate options for a complex species. With out these we can just assume but cannot conclud. There can be a great colour variation in same spcies according to geographic range eg calliophis nigrescens in Gujarat and same in Kerela. Good luck.
