Suppose you want to do an outcome research or progress of patients from a certain disease such as HIV or Tuberculosis. So you wanted to conduct a secondary data analysis on HIV/Care, Tuberculosis or any other disease related patient data. You request an anonymized data from a hospital, insurance provider, or research organization which has collected the data from a certain patient cohort. Then, you received a dataset which is 5 to 10 years or more years older. Due to the reason that the company which has been owning the data was not legally allowed to share the data 5 or 10 years ago, you couldn't access the data timely.
How much can this data be used in research? Can the findings from analyzing this data be used to reflect the conditions of the disease in the current patients?

Depende de lo que lo que quieras investigar. Por ejemplo, si quieres saber si el dolor crónico afecta a la Calidad de Vida de los pacientes de un determinado hospital y no existe un estudio posterior, te valdría.
Si quieres investigar sobre nuevos avances en HIV con datos de hace 10 años, no te lo recomendaria.

Yes, absolutely. It's not uncommon for researchers using big national cohort datasets to engage data that are 10 years old, and with clinical data this should be even less of a problem given the necessary time delay on dissemination. Just be very clear about the referent time period for your data and note how some of the relevant factors may have changed between then and the present day, and you should be good to go.
Te podría valer si quieres ver la evolución de un cohorte en N tiempo determinado para luego contrastarlo con datos nuevos.
Eso es lo que yo estoy investigando acerca del dolor crónico.
Pero insisto, en España, investigar con datos desfasados de 10 años no tienen buena aceptación.
As Alexandra stated, it is still possible to use such old data in your research but you have to be very particular about mentioning the reason you are using it. A noteworthy point to mention is that in medical research, even two years old data is sometimes considered to be old and even in some areas of niche research it is out of date.

Como dice Rayes, los datos envejecen a mucha velocidad.
En España, sólo tiene validez si se utilizan en una investigación científica para comparar con datos nuevos. En caso contrario, sería una investigación desfasada.

Yes you can use old data in specific situations like the exploration of time trends of events and also in case you want to compare changes over time but at two points in time not as a trend.
