I am conducting a longitudinal case study to explore a new phenomenon and gain better insights into participants' views. Quantitative data is required to check any preconceptions participants have through the use of questionnaires. The analyzed data will provide input for QUAL data. So, it is a sequential mixed-method approach yet it is exploratory not an exploratory case study. Is it possible or am I missing out on something?

To my understanding, your parent design is a longitudinal case study that employs sequential mixed methods. If so, the order of quantitative and qualitative stages depends on your purpose of the longitudinal case study. If you examine change over specific periods of time, with a theory in mind, your investigation could be labeled a longitudinal case study-explanatory sequential design that starts with a quantitative stage. If the specificity of time is not the focus, just covering trends of a phenomenon over time, it could be a longitudinal case study-exploratory sequential design that begins with and accentuates the qualitative stage. You might refer to the article by Guetterman and Fetters (2018) for germane insights.

Dear Ibtihaj Dandachi I agree with Mohialdeen Alotumi - although I may not exactly understand your questions, however, you may also benefit from calling it a case study using a development design (in this lies that it is sequential). Again it depends on the purpose as also mentioned above:
In a mixed methods setting, the development design "seeks to use the results from one method to help develop or inform the other method, where development is broadly construed to include sampling and implementation, as well as measurement decisions" (Greene et al., 1998)

There are many terms for how to characterize a mixed methods study. John Creswell uses four simple types. You should read his book A Concise Introduction to Mixed Methods Research. Your design sounds like explanatory; there are many ways to characterize it, but have a well-developed question and desired answers first.
