I am planing to get few antibodies for WB, IP and IHC purpose (all three). The limitation is that the custom antibodies from the manufacturer are prescribed to be used for WB and IP or for WB and IHC (only two). So, just want to know if I can use one antibody for IHC or IF, or do I have to buy both to solve the purpose?
Depends on the antibody. You could contact the vendor's tech support and ask whether that application for that antibody has been tested and didn't work, or just hasn't been tested.
I recently found a new WEB site to search for antibodies: www.biobrea.com it has a great filter that enables you to select antibodies by application (and many more). Maybe you can use it to find an antibody already well validated in these 3 applications? Else, if an antibody is working in IP I would expect it to ba able to recognize the native conformation of the protein, hence to work in IHC and IF, expcet if another protein would mask the epitope (?)
