If you see a message which tells you in an aggressive way "don´t throw your trash to the floor" you don´t do it? this is a research question that I wanted to answer in a higher education institution from Colombia. I wanted to explore the behaviorism as an environmental education tool. Please, if some of you know the literature about it, I'll appreciate if you share it.
Actually some psychological studies have demonstrated that when people are proven wrong (eg., in an argument, or over a deeply held principle) the same parts of the brain light up under fMRI as when they are threatened. This contributes to why our politics are so polarized (we are simply not equipped neurologically for the world of nuance and diversity we live in), but I'd wonder whether it might not also apply to more broadly to trying to 'aggressively' change behavior like this.
