Calculating Growth and Ingestion Rates?

I am looking for an easy-to-understand growth and ingestion rate paper or excel file for beginner ecology students. Everything I am finding is a bit too advanced for them. Does anyone have a nice breakdown of the equations with examples? I would like them to use data on freshwater daphnia ingestion on diatoms from their lab experiments.
