Convert the current obtained to coulombs and moles of electrons transferred per h. Then convert the nitrate removal rate observed also into moles of electrons accepted per h (assume that per mol of nitrate 5 mol of electrons are needed). This gives you a first indication of the coulombic efficiency of electron transfer from the electrode to nitrate. Complicating reactions are the build-up of nitrite, nitrate assimilation and if oxygen is present the oxidation of ammonia or of nitrite.
