I performed mechanical tensile tests and obtained results in the form of two columns (force in N, displacement in mm) after I calculated (stress in MPa, strain %). I would like to know that there is a function in Excel that allows you to directly give the max of the stress and the value next to it (deformation %)?
Hello Salah Amroune , Yes thats possible (if I understand your question correctly). To find the max-value within a column you can use the function "=MAX()". If your stress values are located in the cells A1 to A9 for instance, you have to use "=MAX(A1:A9)" to find the max-value within these cells. If your deformation values are located in the cells B1 to B9 you can use the function "=VLOOKUP()" to find corresponding values. Just imagine that you use a separate cell to find your max-stress-value, lets say A11, than your "VLOOKUP" function has to look like this:
=VLOOKUP(A11, A1:B9, 2, FALSE)
(=VLOOKUP(value, table(matrix), col_index, [range_lookup]))
col_index = the column, where the function will search for your deformation value (second column)
if [range_lookup] = FALSE, the function will search for exact values (your stress value)
You can use the cell next to A11 (B11) to perform the "VLOOKUP" function for instance.
