Different reports claim that there is a very poor linkage between research and extension, especially in the developing world. Talking about agriculture, majority of the research results in many countries never reach to the farmers field, as claimed. This is a time to speak up! How can we stand up to address this situation ??
In other words Lab to Land ratio is very less, as our end users are farmers, so we should do OFT's, FLD's, Kissan Mela, Kissan Ghostis, Farmer awareness programmes for the benefit of the farming community, and share success stories with them.

It is a key point that the generated new technologies by scientists should be disseminated to farmers through technology transfer processes thereby for promoting worldwide agricultural development.
Building effective links between scientists, technology transfer workers and farmers is vital to the process of development.
Though this linkage is vital for bringing development, lot of work is expected to be implemented to strongly bridge actors (agricultural scientists and technology transfer workers, managers of agricultural research and extension organizations, policy makers concerned with public administration and scholars interested in these issues) involved in agricultural research and technology transfer for bringing sustainable development especially in developing countries.
If I am talking about Indian Punjab, It is not so.
Any proven technology is heavily demonstrated in Nitch areas.Each kharif season and Rabi season,10 kisan melas /kisan divas are being organized in march and september months,where everything is displayed and exposed.
Apart from that ,PAU (PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY) is publishing revised package of prcatices for both kharif as well as rabi season crops after every 6 months with updated technology in english as well as vernacular language at a nominal price.
Field days/block level /district level camps also bring technology close to farmers.
This is a very interesting observation. If this is true, every agriculture ministry or department must employ officers whose job is to simplify research findings into a format that can be understood by extension workers. In most countries, including southern Africa, extension workers are not very educated cadres.There is need for an educated level cadres who must translate research findings into understandable language for the extension workers. I think that is the missing link
