I am looking to buy some vhf transmitters to place on passarine birds. Multiple companies sell a suitable product, but there are no reviews on the quality of the different brands. Does anyone have any recommendations from their own work? (2g max, 3 month life, > 1Km transmission distance)

I agree with Dr. Parsons; Holohil is the best company all the way around.. I have also had good experiences with Wildlife Materials, Inc., and Lotek.
I used similar tags produced by Biotrack (http://www.biotrack.co.uk/) and I was completely satisfied for the devices and for the technical support.
I always used Biotrack, UK, transmitters. As Dimitri we were always satisfied with the service and the transmitters.

I've worked with Lotek before several times and have always been pleased with the equipment and customer service (repairing transmitters or receiver equipment). Their Biotracker scanning receiver is super compact and great in the field if you're chasing birds around like I was.

By tracking of imperial eagles and red kite we used biotrack radio tags and commercially radio scanner - icom R20. I was satisfied with it - because it is small and it has very good battery life. This is about the satellites for the poor. He launched two balloons which are 10mW transmitter operating at a frequency of 434.500 MHz mode DominoEX 16. Frequency offset of 500 Hz to avoid stepping on each other. Balls - ordinary holiday, transmitters weigh 8.5 and 10.4 grams, respectively, and contain GPS, solar panels and a quarter-wave antenna on 70 cm. For tracking necessary 70 cm SSB receiver and a computer with dl-fldigi (this is a modified version of fldigi).
