I agree with David Riley ... it is actually also featured in renal, adrenal, vascular and adipose tissue systems.
Actually BNP was first identified in Brain ,that's why name is Brain Natriuretic peptide ( BNP). But Major proportions of BNP is secreted from Heart Ventricle and small proportion from Atria. Other site of secretion Renal , that why In renal disease BNP levels increases. Hormone replacement Therapy( estrogen) also increase BNP level., Might be source of female genital organ

It states and I quote: “Several different names were given to these peptides such as atrial natriuretic factor, atriopeptin, cardionatrin, and cardiodilatin. However, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is most often used to describe this peptide in the current literature. The second member of the family to be discovered, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), was originally called brain natriuretic peptide because it was purified and sequenced from porcine brain (Sudoh et al. 1988). However, subsequent studies found that it is more highly concentrated in cardiac ventricles of patients with heart failure (Mukoyama et al. 1991; Mukoyama et al. 1990). Therefore, it is often described as B-type natriuretic peptide today.”

Actually BNP was first identified from Brain , so name given as BNP. Pro BNP is an excellent marker of Acute Heart failure and Chronic heart failure as well. Level.of BNP increase will be higher in acute than chronic heart failure. Sensitivity and specificity is above more than 90%
It was first indentified in Brain that's why called as BNP , apart from Brain, other site of BNP secretion is Heart, Where BNP levels act a good prognostic marker in patient of Heart Failure ( Diastolic and Systolic Heart Failure)
BNP is good cardiac marker for Acute and chronic heart failure and Sensitivity and specificity of this marker for detecting heart failure more than 80% . BNP is called for its first detection from Brain
