There is considerable specificity in legume -rhizobia symbiosis. Each legume forms nodule with specific rhizobial strains. Rhizobium is generally fast growing and Bradyrhizobium slow growing. Rhizobium and Bradyrhizobium both have been recovered from cowpea nodules. You will have to perform in vivo assays to evaluate nodulating and N fixing efficacy of indigenous cowpea isolates.
