I have prepared natural fiber reinforced polyolefin composite for which methane emission has to be estimated once it lands to landfill after completing the service life. Is there any article which talks about this or any methodology to estimate the green house gas emission specially methane.
Biodegradation of your composite depends on what type of reinforcement you used. If you used a short fiber reinforcement, I do not think your composite biodegrades since polyolefin is not biodegradable and it completely encapsulate each fiber in the composite. On the other hand, if a continuous fiber is used, the end of the composite will expose the fiber end and from this end biodegradation of the fiber can slowly take place. Also, the landfill has poor oxygen availability. Therefore, if you calculate the biodegradation of the material under a freely available oxygen environment, the actual result would be quite different.
